21 day Antarctic Cruise 2013

You’ll depart Sydney flying direct to BUENOS AIRES. Enjoy two nights at the Dazzler Tower Hotel St Martin with transfers and tours, as well as a tango Show and dinner. Then board your beautiful ship and sail south to the Magellan Straits and on to USHUAIA, the world’s most southerly city, affectionately known as Fin del Mundo (or End of the World). There will be tours to national parks, glaciers, beaver and seal colonies available as well as local cruises.

You’ll understand the difficulties of life in PATAGONIA and TIERRA del FUEGO before sailing the BEAGLE CHANNEL to CAPE HORN. We then cross DRAKES PASSAGE to the ANTARCTIC PENINSULA.

Cruise to ELEPHANT ISLAND in the South Shetland Group, and trace the path of trail blazers like Shackleton and Scott as you too, discover the beauty and magic of ANTARCTICA, the White Continent.

The landscapes are dazzling against the pristine backdrop of glassy seas, glaciers and stately icebergs. You will be sharing your experiences with a remarkable array of wildlife: birds in great numbers including penguins, albatross, petrels, gulls and terns: seals of all descriptions and as many as ten different species of whale.

Cruise across ICEBERG ALLEY to PARADISE BAY. Then cruise down Gerlache Strait (referred to as Kodak ALLEY) with its majestic mountains and glaciers to the SCHOLLART CHANNEL. The channel is absolutely breathtaking, its icecliffs, glaciers and icebergs are absolutely stunning!

Please note that our destinations in ANTARCTICA will be determined by our ship’s Captain based on weather, iceberg flow and safety, but be assured that you will relive your magic experiences for years to come.

You will possibly visit a number of research bases in your travels and welcome aboard scientists who are frequently prepared to outline their research projects in the ship’s theatre, always to a packed house.

As we leave this remarkable continent sailing across Drakes Passage once again, you must but admire the efforts of our early Antarctic explorers, especially Shackleton. We head to the FALKLAND ISLANDS and PORT STANLEY for a fascinating day ashore, reliving the 1982 conflict, exploring the town, walking amongst penguins or just enjoying fish and chips with a pint of bitter in an English Pub.

You then head for PUERTO MADRYN on the east coast of Argentina where Antarctic wildlife abound; walk through a 500,000 penguin colony or visit an Elephant Seal colony with its beach masters.

Sail to Montevideo in Uruguay where the relics of the Graf Spee, the german pocket battleship that was schuttled at the start of WWII remain. Tour this vibrant city and explore the beautiful Parliament House and hundreds of monuments before sailing back to BUENOS AIRES.
